“You and Barry got something going on I need to know about?” I looked up at Jack and watched his jaw go tight, as he watched Barry walk away. “Um, no, we’re just friends. He took me for coffee once when I first moved here, and we bump into each other from time to time.”
“Good, keep it that way; I don’t like to share.”
“Share? I’m not sure I’m ready for any type of relationship, Jack.”
“Babe, you may not be ready, but that’s not going to stop me from changing your mind.” He
replied smiling, his rough voice washing over me. Damn. My traitorous heart liked hearing that and started racing. My head told me to run, but I stupidly listened to my heart, and I smiled back at him. (I know, I know, it’s that damn smile.)
“Ok, Jack,” I whispered in reply. Jack’s smile turned to a sexy grin and then his eyes dropped to my lips. I sucked in a breath as his head lowered, his lips gently brushing mine. A warm tingle coursed through my body, as he wrapped both arms around me and crushed me to his chest. We were in public, but I didn’t care. Jack deepened the kiss, his hand coming up my back and into my hair, securing me deeper into him. Slowly the kiss ended, and he lets me go. I took a wobbly step back and looked up at him. Jack’s brow moved together in reflection, like he was working something out in his head. Then he smiled and my knees got weak.
“Now that’s more like it, boy.” I turned my head to see Lorraine grinning from ear to ear. My face flushed in embarrassment, and Jack just grunted, grabbed my hand, pulled me towards the door, and then mumbled. “You got that right."
STEPH'S REVIEW
“Didn’t know it then, didn’t see it till I confronted you at the paper that same day, but you’re not tough, no, you’re not tough at all, you’re a fighter. Fight for what you want, for those you love, fight for the right to be who you want to be, you even fight for the right to fight.”Give me a HOT alpha male along with a strong independant woman and you are playing my tune!!!
A widower at the age of 39, living in a house she can’t afford that is filled with memories of a life no more… Jennifer Stewart packs up all her belongings and moves to the high country in the mountains of Colorado. She has a journalism background and a fierce determination therefore very little stands in her way.
After a few short months, Jennifer finds herself right in the middle of the town’s shocking serial killer story. She is told by her Editor and the Chief of Police to stay out of the investigation. However she is concerned for her small town and believes solving this crime spree could promote her out of the social events department.
This is where our HOT Alpha male enters the story… Jack Gunnison is the third generation Sheriff and his job is much more than just a paycheck. He is the outdoorsy type that excels at almost everything he puts his mind to, including dating most of the woman in the small town of Gunnison.
"I'm not 9-5 suit material; I wear jeans; I hunt bad guys, and I rescue damsels in distress."Jack and Jennifer's electric attraction to one another is truly FUN!
“One, two -”Jennifer is one sassy lady and Jack just can’t get enough. The last thing either are looking for is a relationship. Jennifer is just starting over and Jack has NEVER settled down for long. Yet try as they may, their lives keep leading back to one another.
“Are you counting down?” I hissed
“I get to five, and that coat isn’t on, we got problems. Three -”
“You are not counting down like I’m a child.”
“Four - “I looked at his eyes, as he paused to see if I would comply, and I could tell he wanted me to disobey.
“Twenty years, not once in twenty years have I ever met a woman who tied my stomach up in knots, and you stomped into my life four days ago, and just the thought of you, Christ… you’re my kryptonite, Jenn…”The story is much more than just a hot alpha romance. There is major suspense! The twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat and just when you think you can’t take anymore you are hit with a total swoon worthy Epilogue that will melt your heart. This is a standalone novel and one that I highly recommend.
This is C.P. Smith’s debut novel yet her writing style is that of a seasoned author. I look forward to many more novels by this talented author.
This is a nail biting (w/ a whole lot of HOTNESS) 4 star read!!
