After working on the house all day Sunday, I called Kelsey the following morning. I had a limited time with her. I wasn’t going to waste it by dragging things out. Especially now that I’d had a taste of her explosive heat. A taste of the fire that melted all her ice. “Hello?” Her voice was scotch and honey.
“What’re you wearing?” I asked.
“A frown.”
“Mmm. Sexy.”
“Archer, I’m at work,” she said tartly.
“In a classroom?”
“No. I’m in my office.”
“Alone?”
“Yes.”
“So tell me what you’re wearing.”
There was a pause. Taut energy crackled over the line.
“Archer, I had rules because I have boundaries—”
“One rule,” I told her. “No boundaries. Not with me.”
“Or what?” she challenged.
“Or you don’t get fucked.”
She inhaled sharply. “You are so crude.”
“Uh huh. And you like it. What are you wearing?”
“A suit.” She sounded cross. “A tailored, gray wool suit.”
“And underneath?”
“A blue, Brooks Brothers dress shirt.”
“And under that?”
“I’m not going to tell you.”
“I dare you to tell me,” I said.
“I do not accept the dare.”
“Then I double-dog dare you.”
She gave a muffled laugh, like she was trying not to. “What are you wearing?”
“Jeans and T-shirt. I’m all hot and sweaty from working.”
“Really?” Now she sounded intrigued. “Are you wearing a tool belt?”
“I was.”
“Hmm.”
“Tell me about your sexy underwear,” I said.
“No.”
“You’ve got a bad attitude, lady. You need to be spanked as well as fucked.”
She made a noise that sounded like a half groan, half laugh. “You do go all out, don’t you?”
“You haven’t seen anything yet. You ever been spanked?”
There was a second of silence, as if she was thinking.
“No.” She almost sounded surprised. “I haven’t.”
“First time for everything. What color is your bra?”
A sigh came over the line. “Blue, okay? Dark blue silk with white trim.”
“Matching panties?”
“Yes.”
“Are they wet?”
“God, Archer. Yes.”
I rubbed my erection through my jeans. “What about your shoes?”
“Navy pumps with three-inch heels.”
“I’ll be at your place at seven,” I said. “I want you waiting in your heels and lingerie. Nothing else.”
“And if I’m not?” she replied, putting some of that ire back into her voice.
“You’ll be in trouble.”
“So if I am, I avoid… um, punishment?” I laughed. “Nice try, storm girl. But you’re getting spanked no matter what.”

REVIEW

If ever there was an author who can write classy smut, it is Nina Lane. Her characters are strong, independent people that have amazingly HOT sex!  Break the Sky is a standalone spinoff novel from the AMAZING Spiral of Bliss series. If you loved Dean West just wait until you meet is brother Archer! 

Archer West is the misunderstood black sheep of the family. He has lived most of his life on his own terms. Archer is a drifter of sorts and lets just say that trouble has no problem finding his current address. 

“I don’t need you to like me, Professor March,” he said. 

“But I’ve gotten enough bullshit from women who assume I’m pond scum. Don’t you be one of them.”

Kelsey March is a meteorology professor who is awaiting tenure while attempting to breathe life back into her research project. I loved Kelsey’s no holds bar attitude. She is driven, independent and smart mouthed.  Just an all around enjoyable character..

Archer offers Kelsey a no strings attached “relationship”.  Their attraction is electric and when they finally agree of the terms… well the sparks just fly off the kindle screen!

“You don’t make the rules sweetheart,” he repeated, lowering his head to trail his lips against my neck.  “You don’t do anything but what I tell you to.”

Archer’s dirty mouth and drooling worthy tattoos will have you aching for more as he slowly strips Kelsey of her self imposed good girl status.

“Do you ever let go, storm girl?” he murmured in a voice so low I had to ease even closer, determined not to be afraid of whatever he was going to say. “Ever lose control?” he said, his gaze tracking over my face. “Ever surrender?”

“Never,” I whispered. “I never surrender.”A smile curved his beautiful mouth, a smile of both promise and warning. “You will.”

The supporting characters were equally as amazing.  I originally fell in love with Dean and Liv so getting small glimpses of their live was a real treat.  One character that I felt truly left an impact on my heart was Kelsey's mother.  She is a very kind woman who was able to point out, that just maybe, Kelsey can't see the forest for the trees when it came to Archer.  

“What I want for you is a man who challenges you, who loves you fiercely, who accepts everything about you, even your worst flaws. You are not an easy woman, Kseniya, and you should not have an easy man. I want you to have a man whom you want. A man who makes you laugh and makes you angry. A man who chases you because he is not afraid of the storm inside you. Because he loves that part of you.”

I love when an author takes a misunderstood character and makes you love them. That is exactly what we got with Break the Sky. This is a story about second chances and finding one's destiny.  It is a great read and one you should grab immediately!
