Hopeful is a stand alone novel.
Guys like Joel Wentworth weren't supposed to fall in love with girls like me. He could have had his pick of the girls on campus, but somehow the laws of nature were defied and we fell crazy in love.
For a short time, I thought it would be for infinity.
On July 10, 2006, immediately after graduation, Joel left for New York. And, despite him wanting me to go with him, I'd refused, unwilling to disappoint my parents and risk the judgment of my friends. I hadn’t seen him again. Never even spoke to him.
I've spent the last eight years working hard to put my career front and center in my life, dodging any personal complications. I have a strict no-dating policy. I've managed to piece together a reality that works for me.
Until now.
Now, Joel's coming back to London.
And I need to get over him before he gets over here.
REVIEW
“I thought I locked away in my memory your face, your sounds when you came, but that was better than I remembered, ”
Hopeful is a refreshing light-hearted second chance romance. Every single character is captivating and totally relatable. Louise Bay did an amazing job making us laugh, cry and fall in love with JOEL WENTWORTH!
“It’s so good to have you here.”
His kisses trailed down my neck. “In my town,” he kissed over my collarbone.
he kissed between my breasts.“In my heart.”
“In my bed,”
Joel is definitely my new book boyfriend. He is sensitive, driven and supportive. We fall in love with Joel when he is a young man just about to wrap up his last year of college. As the story progresses we fall deeper in love with the successful man who has returned home to find out if his first love will also be his last.
All I wanted in that moment was Joel to see inside me, see how much I needed him. I couldn’t tell him, but I needed him to know.
Ava Elliot is a fiercely dedicated student that rolls that dedication into her law career. She is spunky and strong willed which was refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed the way Ava embraced life. She holds her feelings close to her heart however when she cares about a person she is completely dedicated.
Just when I thought I had nothing to lose, I found out there was further to fall.
Ava and Joel’s connection is intense and at times heart breaking. The love this couple has for one another is effortless however when life throws them a curveball they find it hard to overcome the obstacle.
Men compartmentalize these things in a way I don’t think women can. Men can say, ‘We’ve split up, life moves on, I’ll find someone else,’ and then never think about that person again. Women, I think, bruise more deeply, love longer.” He finished his mouthful of food. “You think Daisy will take me back?”
“I think that if you feel the thunderbolt, you will love her whether or not she takes you back.”
I could feel the sadness rise in me.
Typically I am not a huge fan of stories that bounce between past and present. However, Louise Bay does an amazingly seamless job moving us between the timeline.
This is a great quick read that isn't heavy in the angst department. You will find yourself flying through the story and falling in love with all the characters!
Louise Bay you have a new fan!! I look forward to reading many more of you books!
Ruined by romantic mini-series of the seventies and eighties, I love all things romantic. There's not enough of it in real life so I'll settle for books and films. I love the rain, the West Wing, London, days when you don't have to wear make-up, being alone, being with friends, elephants and champagne
