EMMA CHASE stopped by RG to talk about her new release, SUSTAINED! This is the second release in The Legal Brief's series and a HUGE hit!!!
RG: Hi Emma, and thank you for stopping by RG! We are excited to promote your upcoming release, Sustained!
EC: Hi! Thanks, it’s great to chat with you!
RG: The Legal Briefs series is centered around an up and coming group of young attorneys. How did this story come about and are any of these characters based on real people?
EC: The idea came to me while I was in Washington DC for a book signing. Walking around DC, there were a lot of joggers and bicyclists – all of them young, attractive and in shape. When I mentioned it to my husband, he said that most of them were probably lawyers. And boom – that was it – the idea for doing a series focused on three hot-shot lawyers working at the same firm was born.
RG: Sustained is the second book in this new and exciting series. Can you give us a sneak peek?
EC:
“Is that what you want?” she asks quietly. “Do you want me?”
I lose myself in those clear blue eyes. Endless and cerulean, like tropical seas. And my voice is barely a whisper. “All the time. I can’t remember not wanting you anymore.”
We close the wisp of distance together, and our lips fuse. It’s slow at first, a gentle exploration. And then my fingers grasp firmer, pressing into the back of her neck, pulling her nearer. My mouth covers hers; it’s pliant and soft and so fucking eager. And it feels . . . electric . . . and important. Like every kiss before was just a dress rehearsal to prepare me for this. To bring me here, to this moment, where I can’t taste her deep enough—can’t get close enough.”
EC: A few of these characters don’t want to let me go just yet, so I have ideas for a possible novella that will catch us up with them a little down the road – but that’s not a definite just yet.
RG: If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would you pick?
EC: Drew Evans. Guaranteed good time.
RG: If you had hidden cameras in your house, what super embarrassing things would be seen?
EC: Me singing. I get songs stuck in my head a lot. All kinds of songs – rap, rock, show tunes – and often I’ll just break into song. My daughter has sworn to tape me one day and put it online, lol.
EC: Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey. Fun, sexy characters, clever dialogue and swoony romance - I can read it over and over again and it’s just as good as the first time.
RG: What is your guilty pleasure where books are not concerned?
EC: Reality TV.
RG: Last but certainly not least, can you tell us a little about your current Work In Progress?
EC: I’m working on edits for Appealed, the third book in the Legal Briefs Series. Appealed is Brent Mason’s story – he’s a super fun, playful, sexy guy with a wealthy family. Brent reunites with an old frenemy from boarding school – the beautiful Kennedy Randolph. She’s the prosecutor on his current case and the sparks fly! In the courtroom and the bedroom.

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that — that, I know how to do.
REVIEW
Sassy, hilarious and HOT! Sustained reminds me why I LOVE TO READ!!!
This is the second standalone release in The Legal Briefs Series. Ms. Chase delivers an outstanding alternating POV along with amazing chemistry!!!
Jake Becker the an up and coming criminal defense attorney in the competitive Washington D.C market. Jake’s approach to relationships and work is about the same… go in for the kill and never look back. He is closed off, a real a$$hole (at times) but fiercely devoted to those close to him.
Chelsea McQuaid is the mid-twenty something gal that recently lost her only brother/father figure. This lose pushed her into the parental role for his six young children. Chelsea walked away from her graduate program and finds herself in over her head as she attempts to give her nieces and nephews a new life after losing their parents.
After catching a pick-pocketer (aka Chelsea’s nephew) Jake attempts to shock some sense into this cocky teenager. However, what Jake finds is himself forming quick attachments to each and every one of the McQuaid family.

“You don’t need to show me how tough you are, Rory—I can see it. I was a lot like you when I was your age—a tough, pissed-off little asshole. The difference is, I was smart enough not to shit on the people who cared about me.” I raise my eyebrows. “Are you?”Their chemistry is undeniable and their banter is priceless!!! I loved seeing this story unfold as Jake and Chelsea attempt to find each other amongst a mountain of responsibility.
“I am sorry, Chelsea.”Their push/pull is both heartbreaking and breathtaking. I found myself both wanting to smack Jake while at the same time. wanting to hug him until he came to his senses. Will Jake finally latch on to the one real thing in his life? Or will he push true greatness away to protect them from his darkest fears???
Can she hear the strain? The regret that sounds absolutely nothing fucking like me? Does she know this new voice is reserved only for her?
“Chelsea . . . ,” I whisper—with no idea what I’m about to say.I just like the taste of her name on my lips.Sustained was a quick captivating read for me. I literally couldn’t put it down, WHICH I LOVE!!! If you read Overruled you will be pleased to see the characters you already love! However, if you are new to the Legal Brief series, Sustained is a great introduction.
Rating: 4.5 stars (Alternating POV)
